My decision to loft out and design a Carolina Skiff was driven by finding a well
proven design that was easily within the grasp of the home builder. This is also
one of the most versatile crafts for shoal waters ever invented. It will drive well
with a 15 HP engine or move right along with a 30 HP engine. These boats have
been built with cuddy cabins, center consoles or overnight accommodations.
The very enthusiastic could exchange the outboard engine with an inboard.
The boat is exceptional for fishing, gunkholing, or
just taking the family out for a swim. The Carolina
Skiff is easily beached and just as easily pushed
off the beach when the afternoon picnic is over. If
is relatively light weight and can be trailered with
an inexpensive flat bottom trailer.
Best of all, it is about as simple a boat to build as
there is. Simply build the frames, align them on
the strongback and skin the hull. No tricky joinery
or shaping of keels.
